The Irony Was Not Lost

Lisa and I were out running a few errands today and came across the following site: A Saturn dealership with a huge inflatable dinosaur playland kind of thing taking up most of its front parking lot. Is it just me, or shouldn't any of the General Motors brands try and avoid any, even subtle references to dinosaurs these days.

The big inflated dino out front said one thing to me about the state of the GM brands within the company - They just don't understand that symbolism can be as powerful to a struggling brand as any financial statement, price promotion or advertising campaign.

Whoever thought a big inflatable dinosaur out front of the dealership would be a great idea should be shot.

And have you noticed that the big inflatable "things" don't do very much for ANY business? I really hate some of them--esp. the huge ones used for close-outs, bankruptcy sales, liquidation sales. About the only thing they do is get "some" attention. A carnival is the best location for them.
